Kenneth Spencer Corzatt

Kenneth Spencer Corzatt, age 93 of Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Monday May 26, 2014 in the Blair House in Burlington. He was born March 11, 1921 near Raritan, Illinois the son of Spencer and Mary Haines Corzatt. On April 18, 1942, he married Catherine Ross in Raritan. She survives.

Kenneth spent his youth on the family farm north of Raritan. For some years, he was in business with his father-in-law on a farm northeast of Stronghurst known as the Rankin Place. This became Kenneth and Catherines permanent home. They raised four children on the family farm; Charlene Tidwell (deceased), Mary (Bill) Phillips of Nevada, IA, Cheryl (Les) Austin of Owosso, MI, and Charles (Roxanne) Corzatt, now living on the family farm near Stronghurst. They have four grandchildren, Channon Rider, Crystal Rider, Erica Lahring-Mcquerry, Eric Austin, and two great grandchildren, Jake and Chloe Lahring. Also surviving are two sisters, Marilyn Peterson of Cameron, IL, Dorothy Blender of Monmouth, IL and one brother, James Corzatt of Stronghurst.

Kenneth was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and farmer. He was a cattleman and steward of the land. His calling and passion was farming.

After retirement and moving to SunnyBrook in Burlington, Kenneth had time to practice and play his guitar and hone his skills at Wii bowling. During competitions, he was often on the winning team and once won champion. He was a member of the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church in Biggsville, Illinois.

Besides his daughter, Charlene Tidwell, Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Raymond and Keith Corzatt.

Friends may call as they desire after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral service for Mr. Corzatt will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 29th at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will follow in the Raritan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
