Karl Robert Thompson, 49, of Lomax, IL passed away at 6:08 PM Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, IA.
He was born October 16, 1969 in Burlington, IA, the son of Robert and Joyce Gustafson Thompson. He first married Sherri Jerzyk. They had two children, Shelby and Dugan. On March 8, 2005 he married Juliana M. Collins in LaHarpe .
Karl was a 1988 graduate of the Dallas City High School and a 1990 graduate of Southeastern Community College. He was employed at Ideal Ready Mix in Fort Madison, IA. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and singing karaoke. He especially enjoyed following his children's sporting events and family gatherings where he would often grill a meal for the whole family. He was always ready to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife, Juliana, six children, Shelby Thompson of Chandler, AZ, Dugan Thompson of LaHarpe, IL, Dalton Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Isabella Thompson and Kinley Thompson all of Lomax, his mother, Joyce Thompson of Lomax, one brother, Kevin (Teresa) Thompson of Lomax, five sisters, Rhonda (the late Steve) Foley of Lomax, Melanie (Rick) Evans of Lomax, Leana (Karl) Yard of LaHarpe, Andrea Thompson of Cedar Rapids, IA and Marie (Robert) Berry of Lomax, his father-in-law, Claude Collins of LaHarpe, his brother-in-law Bill Collins of LaHarpe and sisters-in-law, Betty and Patty both of Burlington and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, a niece, Nichole Harman, his grandparents and mother-in-law, Rose Collins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Dallas City Grade School Gymnasium with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery. The family will meet with friends Saturday from 5:00 until 8:00PM at the gym. A memorial fund has been established for his children's education. Banks & Beals Funeral Home, Dallas City is assisting with arrangements.
