Obituary

June L. Lam, 86, of Smithshire, Illinois, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 at her home.  She was born August 9, 1932 near Stronghurst, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Hazel Smith Anders.  On July 24, 1954, she married Wayne E. Lam in Astoria, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on June 11, 2006.


As a child, June was one of the last students to attend the Graham Country School and then spent the last six years of grade school at the  Marsden Country School.  She graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1950.  Earlier in life, June worked for Banker's Life in Monmouth, IL, General Telephone in Monmouth, Wenona, Roseville and Macomb.  She worked as Home Advisor, Youth Advisor and secretary for McDonough County, a bookkeeper and part time grain handler for Winkler Feed Co. in Monmouth, and also helped at the Twomey Company during harvest season.  She was a former member of the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau.  She was a  baptized member of the Astoria Church of The Brethren, and a current member of the Media Community Presbyterian Church.  She enjoyed knitting, sewing, bird watching, and puzzles.


Survivors include two daughters, Sherrie Gray (Randy), of St. Charles, IA, Julie McLaughlin (Chuck) of Smithshire, ten grandchildren, Jennifer Wood Stuart, Dustin Wood (and friend Tracy), Mollie Scrivner (Ryan), Gabriel Wood (and friend Amanda), Zachery  Gray (Rachel), Cody Lam, Kyle Wood, Allison Janusz (Nick), Brad McLaughlin (and friend Ashley), Chas McLaughlin (and fiancé Emily Kinkade), fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and one brother, Phillip Anders (Carlyn)of Raritan.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Wayne Lam Jr., and  one daughter in law, Jacqueline Lam.


The funeral service for Mrs. Lam will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2019 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, with Pastor Pam Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ellison Cemetery, near Smithshire. A luncheon and time of fellowship will be at Liberty Hall in Smithshire, following the committal.  Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.  Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorials have been established for the Roseville Ambulance Service, Ellison Cemetery, and Media Community Presbyterian Church.  Please visit banksandbeals.com to sign the guest book and leave a condolence.
