Obituary

Mr. John N. Petersen, 90, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 6:30AM Monday, May 6, 2013 at his home.

John was born on May 7, 1922 in Burlington, IA the son of Nels and Lydia Gardnar Petersen. On April 4, 1969 he married Frances Bunch Stein in Dallas City.

Mr. Petersen was a World War II Veteran having served in the Army from 1942 through 1946. He then worked at the IAAP for 26 years and retired as a supervisor in 1983. He was a 64 year member of the Burlington American Legion Post #52. He was on the Hancock County Review Board for several years. He was a salesman for Specialty Advertising from 1982 through the present. John was a member of the First Christian Church of Dallas City where he served as an elder for over 20 years. He refereed many sports including, girls basketball, softball and football. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling and golf. John was an avid Cardinal fan.

He is survived by his wife, Frances, 6 daughters, Nancy Brennan of Oregon, Kathy Petersen of Boston, MA, Lana VanHyning of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Jana Cunningham of Dallas City, Becky Harman of Iowa City, IA, Lori Kraft of Grand Island, NE, 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by 1 son, Tim Petersen and 2 brothers, Glen and Kenneth.

Services will be held at 10:00AM Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Will Fowler officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be held at Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Friends may call after 3:00PM Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00PM. A memorial fund has been established for the First Christian Church of Dallas City or the Henderson County Hospice.
