John H. "J.H." Schiedel
John Howard "J.H." Schiedel, 86 of Lomax, Illinois passed away at 3:30 p.m. Monday April 13, 2015 at his home. He was born May 2, 1928 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Henry and Florence Kershner Schiedel. On November 26, 1948, he married Gwendolyn Ruth Pence in Red Oak, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 12, 2007.
Mr. Schiedel was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a welder for Burlington Northern Railroad from 1948 until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Brotherhood Of Maintenance Of Way Union and a former member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed woodworking and yard work.
Survivors include three daughters- Pat (John) Brockman of Franklin, IA, Cindy Schiedel of Niota, IL, Sandy (Clarence) Thacker of Burlington, IA, two sons, Mark Schiedel of Wapello, IA, Jeff (Ruth Ann) Schiedel of LaHarpe, IL, thirteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and two sisters, Pauline Boughner of Richland, IA and Shirley Parker of Fairfield, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one son, Richard Schiedel.
Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, Illinois, where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The graveside service, with Military Rites, for Mr. Schiedel will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Carman Cemetery with Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. A memorial fund has been established for St. Jude Childrens Hospitals and may be left in care of Banks & Beals Funeral Home, P.O. Box 70, Dallas City, Illinois 62330.
