Mr. John V. Jacobs, 93, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 6:15AM Friday, November 1, 2013 at his home.
John was born December 15, 1919 in Galesburg, IL the son John N. and Nora Heath Jacobs. On June 15, 1940 he married Patricia L. Malmrose in Burlington, IA. She preceded him in death August 23, 2012.
Mr. Jacobs was an engineer for the Sante Fe Railroad for forty-two years and was a member of the United Transportation Union for seventy consecutive years. John and Babe Serangeli were instrumental in getting the Little League started in Dallas City. John was a Golden Member of the Eagles Club in Ft. Madison, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Allemen Council 1853 in Nauvoo, IL.
He is survived by two sons, Ron (Jan) Jacobs of Hamilton, IL and Don (Karen) Jacobs of Arvada, CO, eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, 16 step-great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, five step-great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Nora VanMeter of Galesburg, IL.
John was preceded in death by his wife, one granddaughter, Dena Kay, two sisters and four brothers.
Services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City with Father Tony Trosley officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. Friends may call after 3:00PM Friday at the funeral home where a Rosary will be recited at 5:30PM. The family will receive friend following the Rosary until 8:00PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Lee County Hospice.
