Jean Duncan, age 79 of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 12:54 a.m. Friday July 28, 2017 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst. She was born September 20, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Harold Milton and Pearl Irene Greist Vaughn. On October 10, 1956, she married Ellis Nichols. They later divorced. On December 7, 1963, she married Melvin Duncan. They divorced.

Jean was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa High School. She was manager of what is now the Ayerco Service Station and Convenience Mart near Gulfport, Illinois for several years. She also was employed at Winegard Company in Burlington, and helped on the family farm for many years. She enjoyed genealogy, playing cards, scrap booking, dominos, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include five daughters, Rhonda (Brad) Flatt of Media, IL, Lisa (Peter) Klees of Burlington, IA, Brenda Parker of Fort Madison, Iowa, Tina (Kevin) Buck of Danville, IA, Alicia Copenhaver of Hannibal, MO, four sons, Alan (Monica) Nichols of Dallas City, IL, Randy (Jean) Nichols, of Stronghurst, Jeff (Beth) Duncan of Troy, MI, Melvin Duncan Jr, of Marshalltown, IA, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, three sisters, Ramona Simmons and Dalena Vaughn, both of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Patricia (Faylon) Palmer of Winfield, IA, and three brothers, Rick (Karen) Vaughn of San Angelo, TX, George (Anna) Vaughn of Wapello, IA, and Darrell (Cheryl) Vaughn of Mt. Pleasant, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Roberta Vaughn and Shirley McDowell, two brothers, Richard and Robert Vaughn and four grandchildren.

As per Jean's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday July 31, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, with Rev. Karna Peterson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Walnut Grove Cemetery near Media, IL. Friends may call as they desire after 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established for Henderson County Hospice and the Family Outreach Community Center Backpack Program in Stronghurst.
