Jean Kathryn Carnes, 91, of Terre Haute, Illinois, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at the Samaritan Hospital in Macon, Missouri.

She was born January 3, 1931, in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Virgil and Edna Alice Hignight Byars. On September 25, 1949 she married Lewis Carnes, the love of her life, in Paris, Missouri. He preceded her in death December 17, 2005.

Jean was a farm wife for many years. She later worked for Haeger Pottery in Macomb and as a custodian at the Elementary School in Terre Haute. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Disco Embroidery Club and the Wednesday Morning Ladies Bible Study Group, which she loved dearly.

She is survived by her son: James D. Carnes of Terre Haute; two daughters: Barbara (Jerry) Link of LaHarpe and Mary Lou Dunbar of Macon, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The greatest joy of her life was spending time with family and friends.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. September 24, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Lee Unger officiating. Burial will follow in LaHarpe Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
