Janet Sue Breckon, 79, of La Harpe, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Janet was born on April 5, 1943 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Paul and Zelma McMillan. On November 22, 1962, she married Steven Breckon in Sciota, Illinois. Janet graduated from Roseville High School and completed secretarial training at Mid-State College in Peoria, Illinois. Janet did secretarial and clerical work at a number of businesses over the years, including several years doing medical transcription before she retired in 2008.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Steven Breckon, of La Harpe, sons Paul (Kim) and Matt, sister Joan Tibbetts, and five grandchildren: Kate, Maddie, Macey, Jay, and Addison. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Jim McMillan. Non-survivors include any nearby bottle of Coca-Cola and the typewriter that she wore out typing Steven's graduate work.

It is impossible to sum up such a great woman, daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother with just a few paragraphs. All who loved her will never forget her friendliness and her sense of humor. Janet loved many things besides her family and friends, including bowling, John Wayne or Clint Eastwood westerns, crosswords, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and her horse.

Visitation will be from 12:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday June 12, 2022 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in La Harpe, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 10:00am at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in La Harpe, Illinois.
