James Philip Anderson
Mr. James Philip Anderson, 77, of Dallas City, IL died at 4:50 PM Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Galesburg, IL.
He was born January 25, 1934 in Burlington, IA, the son of Philip Clayborn and Dorothy Louise (Hillman) Anderson. He first married Shirley Watts. They later divorced. On December 17, 1977 he married Constance Therese Hubbs.
Jim was raised on a farm near Carman and graduated from Stronghurst High School. He served in the US Army from 1953 - 1955. His early professional career included time with Raid Quarry, Burlington Fire Dept. (6yrs), and Co-Owned and operated a trucking business with Jack Knotts. He eventually joined Raid Quarries as a Superintendent, a position he proudly devoted the rest of his career to throughout ownership changes, including Medusa and eventually Cessford Construction Co. for the next 38 years.
Jim is remembered as enjoying farming, gardening, hog roasting, hunting and fishing and the great outdoors. He also served as a member and chairman of the Dallas City Festival for many years as well as a member of the Fort Madison Elks BPOE 374 (17yrs) and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City. He always took great pride in his family, children and grandchildren. He never knew a stranger and always had a great story to tell when you saw him.
He is survived by his wife, Connie, 5 sons, Douglas (Lynn) Hubbs of Glenpool, OK, Jeffery (Jana) Hubbs of Fort Madison, IA, Michael (Janelle) Anderson of Raymoore, MO, Philip Anderson of Fort Madison, IA and Edward (Sarah) Anderson of Brookfield, WI, 2 daughters, Trisha (Kevin) McGormley of Hurst, TX and Ann Halbrooks of Haltam City, TX, 12 grandchildren, 3 brothers, Thomas (Virginia) Anderson of Carman, IL, Paul (Linda) Anderson of Colorado Springs, CO, John (Lynn) Anderson of Carman, IL and 2 sisters, Marilyn (Volney) Evans of Burlington, IA and Nancy (Bob) Bunt of Huntley, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Linda Anderson.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City with Father Tony Trosley officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Carman Cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 PM Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City where a Prayer Service will be held at 5:30 PM followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Alzheimers Unit at the Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
