Jack William "Shorty" Fude
Jack William Shorty Fude, 74 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 7:17 a.m. Tuesday August 14, 2012 at his home. He was born August 14, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Robert Raymond and Laura Schneider Fude. On August 3, 1973, he married Fern Munday Beach in Rock Island, Illinois.
Mr. Fude served in the Unites States Air Force from 1955 to 1961. He had worked as a truck driver on the east coast, a bass fishing guide in Florida, a deck hand for the Wisconsin Barge Line on the Mississippi River, and most recently as a groundskeeper at Big River State Forest near Keithsburg, Illinois. He became disabled in 1993. He taught fishing, boating, and hunter safety classes, and enjoyed sharing stories with everyone. Fern and Jack went to the same Green Acres country school near Davenport, Iowa, then met again twenty five years later and were married for thirty nine years. He was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, three sons- Dennis (Donna) Fude of Green City, MO., Jay (Judy) Fude of Gladstone, MO., Joe (Chrystal) Fude of Dickinson, ND., two stepsons- Michael (Bev) Beach of Rincon, GA., Keith (Barb) Beach of Johnston, IA., two step daughters- Theresa (Don) DeVore of Davenport, IA., Janet (Dennis) Davis of Normal, IL., nineteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
As per Jacks wishes, there will be no services. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established for the Stronghurst Christian Church. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst is assisting the family with arrangements.
