Jack Lee Genck, 72, of Hamilton, Illinois died at 2:20 a.m. Thursday October 7, 2010 at Lexington Square in Keokuk, Iowa.
He was born March 17, 1938 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Frank and Irene Gross Genck. On March 9, 1960, he married Saundra Smiddy in Canton, Missouri.
Mr. Genck served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. He had lived in Pontoosuc, Illinois, where he served as mayor, before moving to Hamilton in 1995. He was employed at BTR, (formerly Sheller Globe) for forty years, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed NASCAR, the NFL, working in his shop, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, one son - Jeff (Michelle) Genck of LaHarpe, IL., two daughters - JoAnn (Dave) Van Fleet of LaHarpe, Janet Lee Spencer-Genck of Hamilton, IL., seven grandchildren-Jordan, Jarren, and Lauren Genck, Danielle, Derek, and Allison Van Fleet, and Nathan Spencer, two brothers- Mike Genck of Canton, MO., Bill Genck of Quincy, IL., and one sister - Barb Mason of Dallas City, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother- Bob Genck and one sister - Betty Brooks.
Graveside services with military rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 12, 2010 in the Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. Rev. Jim Luder will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society.
