Carl J. Humphrey

Mr. Carl Joseph Humphrey, 61, of rural LaHarpe, IL passed away at 8:35 PM Sunday, August 31, 2014 at his home. Carl was born on December 20, 1952 in LaHarpe, the son of Pearl and Mabel Anderson Humphrey. He married Janet Lynn Berlet on September 16, 2012 after a 26 year relationship.

Carl was a 1970 graduate of the former LaHarpe High School. He went on to become an auto mechanic. In the 1980's Carl owned and operated Carls Service in LaHarpe, and most recently owned and operated Carls Service in St. James City, Florida. He had lived in Florida for over 20 years before retiring to LaHarpe two years ago.

Survivors include his wife; one son, James R. (Juanita) Humphrey of Blandinsville, IL; one Daughter, Crystal (Cory) Babcock of Roseville, IL; a sister of James and Crystal, Courtney Humphrey of Blandinsville; three grandchildren, MaKenna, Kinzley, and Jentry Babcock, all at home; Rossi Lee, whom Carl considered a granddaughter; two brothers, James (Elaine) Humphrey of Geneseo, IL and Wayne (Rebecca) Humphrey of LaHarpe; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and three beloved dogs, Jack, Chassis, and Frankie.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 4, 2014 in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery, rural LaHarpe, with Father Tony Trosley officiating. No formal visitation will be held, although friends are welcome to call anytime between 2:00 and 8:00 PM Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. A memorial fund has been established for Illinois Cancer Care.
