Mrs. Joan Hughes, 79, of Macomb, IL formerly of LaHarpe and rural Blandinsville passed away at 10:30pm Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb.

She was born December 25, 1936 in LaHarpe, the daughter of Earnest G. and Ruth M. Smith Brown. On July 23, 1955 she married Eldon Hughes in Stronghurst, IL. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2006.

Joan loved to garden and go mushrooming. She was a great cook and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and playing cards.

She is survived by one son, Jerry (Stephanie) Hughes of Roseville, IL, two daughters, Lisa (Tim Bowden Brown of Peaksville, MO and Christi Shipinski of Westmont, IL, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, Harold Brown and 2 grandsons.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Hillsborough Cemetery, rural Blandinsville with Rev. Lee Unger officiating. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society. Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe is assisting with the arrangements.
