Mr. Howard L. Bross, 88, of, Phoenix AZ, formerly of Colusa, IL passed away quietly at the Adriel Care Home in Surprise Arizona on Sunday, October 8, 2017

Howard was born on June 11, 1929, the son of Floyd and Florence Fry Bross.

Howard was a 1947 graduate of the Colusa High School. He then served with the Illinois National Guard during the Korean War.

After returning from Korea He married Shirley Bivin and raised his family of 4 children. He farmed in the Colusa area, retiring at the age of 80. He also worked in construction. He was a member of the Hancock County Farm Bureau and the Hancock County Pork Producers. Howard was a past member of the Colusa Fire Department and the former Colusa Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, construction and helping with the Boy Scouts.

In his later years Howard lived in Phoenix, AZ where he met and married his best friend Lois Zade Bross. They enjoyed their years traveling between Phoenix and the farm.

Mr. Bross is survived by four children: James Bross of Dallas City, IL, Kathy (with Wayne) Thomas of Auckland, New Zealand, David Bross of Phoenix, AZ, Lorie Bross of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren: Krystle Thomas, Ashleigh Thomas and Jordan Thomas of Auckland, New Zealand and one sister: Vera Hardy of Hot Springs, AR.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois, and one brother, Bill Bross.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, IL. Burial, with military rites will be held in the Byler Cemetery, rural Dallas City, IL. The family will meet with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00PM at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Hancock County Farm Bureau Scholarship.
