Obituary

Homer "Leon" Ikerd, 93, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 4:10 PM Saturday, November 11, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Ikerd was born August 8, 1924 near Carthage, IL the son of Homer F. and Leoma R. Barth Ikerd. On December 21, 1946 he married Frildo Mae Chewning in Fort Madison, IA. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1988.

As a young man Leon worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, Sheaffer Pen and Brakeville Commercial Fishing. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946, serving as a Radar Operator during World War II. Mr. Ikerd began working for the IAAP soon after his military service. In 1973 he started working for G.E. in Burlington, IA, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Grace Bible Church, Dallas City and the Dallas City American Legion.

Survivors include, one daughter, Shawna (Robert) Britton of Tomah, WI, six grandchildren, Darin Gentry, Bryon Gentry, Jason (Maureen) Nylin, Jaime (Greg) Shultz, Brent (Veralynn) Strawhacker and Cassie Stalsberg, nine great-grandchildren, Kohl, Riley and Delaney Nylin, Kaleb, Carter and Ashley Shultz, Gregory Webb, Trevor Gentry and Jackson Strawhacker and two great-great-grandchildren, Layton and Ayden Shultz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frildo Mae, one son, Jerry Gentry, one daughter, Linda Nylin and two brothers, Donald and Lester Ikerd.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Grace Bible Church in Dallas City with Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Harris Cemetery, Dallas City. Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 PM Saturday at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Grace Bible Church, Dallas City American Legion or Lee County Hospice.
