Herbert E. Johnson, 91, of rural LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the Silver Maple Supportive Living in Carthage, Illinois.

Herb was born on September 11, 1930, the son of Walter and Hildur (Dillon) Johnson.

He farmed all of his life in Durham Township, except for the 2 years he served in the U.S. Army.

Herb was a lifelong learner and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with family and friends. He had a large collection of books. He enjoyed photography, plant identification and many other interests. He and his sister, Ellen, enjoyed traveling together and taking their nieces and nephews fishing, to movies, musicals and many other excursions. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to share.

Survivors include one brother: Larry (Janet) Johnson of LaHarpe; one sister-in-law: Dorothy Johnson of Dallas City; 9 nieces and nephews: Brad (Tammy) Johnson, James (Liz) Johnson, Paul (Deb) Johnson, Dave (Patricia) Johnson, Annetta (Dave) Tevis, Bobby (Lori) Johnson, Carol (Jim) Barnett, Patty (Jim) Cuffe and Andy (Becky) Johnson, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, including a special great-nephew: Grant Cuffe.

Herb was preceded in death by his brother: James Johnson; his sister: Ellen Johnson and one nephew: Bill Johnson.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

The funeral service for Mr. Johnson will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 2nd at Banks & Beals in LaHarpe with Rev. Lee Unger officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Burial will be held at a later date in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
