Obituary

Helen V. Newberry, 100, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 12:50 A.M. at the Gilpin Home in Dallas City.

She was born on October 31, 1910 in Williamstown, Missouri, the daughter of Tom and Mary Baker Doran. On January 5, 1929 she married J.C. Newberry in Ewing, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1976.

Mrs. Newberry had cooked at the Dallas City Grade School for many years. She enjoyed baking, traveling and dancing at the Steamboat Senior Citizens in Burlington, Iowa. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Doris Hiller of Burlington, Iowa, Mary Lou (Ed) Schaffer of Quincy, Illinois and Esther Newberry of Dallas City, 1 son, Jim (Sandy) Newberry of Burlington, Iowa, 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 40 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Father Tony Trosley and Father Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Friends may call after 8:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 9:30A.M. until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.
