Obituary

Hazel Dixon Hart, 101, of Stronghurst, died April 14, 2022 in Los Angeles.

She was born April 28, 1920, in Wyoming, Ill., to William M. and Ethel Snow Dixon. She graduated from Wyoming Community High School in 1938 and from Illinois State University with an associate's degree in elementary education in 1940. She taught in a one-room school for seven years.

She married Raymond Hart, who was also a teacher, in 1941. She taught at Alexis Elementary School while raising three children.

She later earned bachelor's and master's degrees in counseling and guidance from Western Illinois University, and was a guidance counselor at Stronghurst High School and Southern High School until she retired in 1988. She remained active with the Henderson County chapter of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, serving as president for a time, and as a leader of Stronghurst Presbyterian Church and a member of the Mary Martha Missionary Society.

She is survived by daughter Cynthia Hart; sons Kenneth Hart and Max Hart; granddaughters Tenaya Wallace, Megan Wingerter and Heather Hart; grandson Andrew Hart; great-grandchildren Xanathan Wallace and Magnolia Wallace; brother Harry Dixon; nine nephews; and eight nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother Elmer Dixon; sisters Martha Dixon Lyons and Mildred Jean Dixon; two nieces; three nephews; and her companion after Raymond's death, Clarence Pruett.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst.  The funeral service for Mrs. Hart will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Stronghurst Community Presbyterian Church, with Pam Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery.  A memorial fund has been established for the Stronghurst/Raritan Ambulance.
