Obituary

Harry W. Tate, 75, of Dallas City, IL, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, IL. He was surrounded by his family.

Harry was born August 12, 1942, at the La Harpe Hospital, La Harpe, IL to Romane J. Tate and Lois J. (Holford) Tate. He married Mae Dell Blythe at the Eliot Lunning Chapel, in Burlington, IA, on November 21, 1961.

Harry graduated from Dallas City High School in 1960. After High School, he was employed by IAAP; Chevron Chemical Co; First Miss Inc; Agrico Chemical; and American Ordnance where he was a Utilities Manager.

During his lifetime, Harry enjoyed serving his community. He was elected to the Dallas City School Board, where he served as president for 4 years; served as Head Elder and Deacon of the Grace Bible Church of Dallas City, IL, where he was a life long member, where he had the privilege of baptizing three of his grandsons; served on the Dallas City Water Corporation Board for over six years; and was an original Board member that started the Stepping Stone Preschool, Dallas City, IL.

In Harry's earlier years he played fast pitch softball, where he had the privilege of pitching against The King and His Court! He enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and pontooning on the Mississippi River. He loved to take trips with his wife on his Goldwing Honda and continued to be a great bowler throughout his lifetime. He had a strong sense of ethics and love for his family, God, and country.

Harry was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Romane and Lois Tate, and two sisters, Sara Sue Tate, and Mary Ann Smith.

Harry is survived by his wife, Mae Dell Tate of Dallas City; three daughters: Lindy (Mike) Alsbrook of Dallas City, IL; Cindy (Robbie) Leake; also of Dallas City, Melody (Bob) Meyer of Colusa, IL; Two brothers: Otho (Pam) Tate of Dallas City, IL, and Frank (Eileen) Tate of Gladstone, IL, and one sister: Diana (Tom) Doran of Carman, IL. Eight grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 10:00 at the Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, IL, with the Rev. Larry Van Gundy officiating. Burial will be at Terre Haute, IL Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00PM Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. Memorials have been established for the Grace Bible Church of Dallas City, IL; The Beacon of Hope Hospice of Galesburg, IL; and The Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, IL.
