Harry Dale "Baldy" Reed

Mr. Harry Dale Baldy Reed, 83, of LaHarpe, IL passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 5:00 PM in the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.

He was born February 24, 1929 in Colusa, IL, the son of I. Leslie and Geneva Mathews Reed.
He was first married to Shirley Housewright. In June 1974 he married Mary Lowe.

Mr. Reed was a graduate of the Colusa High School He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Army from January 1951 - October 1952. He worked as a mechanic at LaHarpe Ford Motor Sales for many years. He moved to Plant City, FL where he was a mechanic at Wilson-Davis Ford for 30 years. He moved back to LaHarpe in 2003 and worked at Farm King in Macomb, IL. Earlier in life he raced stock cars. He also enjoyed bowling and trading cars.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, 3 daughters, Marla (Eldon) Bruns of Loraine, IL, Karla Johnson of Carthage, IL and Barbara (Eric) Krueger also of Carthage, 2 sons, Robert Reed and Terry Reed both of Wever, IA, 2 stepchildren, Kenneth Garrett of LaHarpe and Beverly Link Smith of Indianapolis, IN, 10 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 7step-great-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Donna Horne of Burlington, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandchildren and his step-son-in-law.

Graveside services, with Military Rites, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City, IL with Rev. Jim Clayton officiating. Friends may call after 9:00 AM Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where the family will meet with friends from 11:30 until 1:30 Saturday. In Lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center or the LaHarpe United Methodist Church.
