Harley E. Jones, 92, of Pleasanton, Missouri, passed away at 10:43 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst, IL.

Harley was born May 14, 1934 in LaHarpe, IL, the son of Harley and Fern (Brunk) Jones. On June 14, 1952 he married Nancy Nicol. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2021. Remarkably, they both passed away on the same day, five years apart.

Survivors include one daughter: Debara (Scott) Hafemann of Savannah, Georgia; two grandsons: John (Tara) Hafemann and Eric (Lindsey) Hafemann; four great-grandchildren: Levi, Jack, Sophia, and Amelia Hafemann, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son: Douglas Eugene Jones; seven sisters, Pauline Jones, Pearl Duncan, Sybil Sloop, Betty Roderick, Carol Sheffler, Ruthie Peterson and Louise White, four brothers, Darol, Harold, Tom and Bobby Jones.

Harley had a distinguished career in retail. He worked for Fred Meyer for 30 years, beginning in a local store in Portland, OR, and working his way up to an executive position in which he managed and established stores in Portland, Tri-Cities, WA, Spokane, WA, Kalispel, MT, Federal Way, WA, and Fairbanks, AK. He retired at 48 years old and after traveling the country for five years began farming in Pleasanton, MO, which he enjoyed immensely.

Although he was the brother who moved away, his heart was always in La Harpe, IL, where he grew up. Visits to La Harpe were always a high point for Harley and Nancy and their children.
