M. Georgeanna Fowler, 88, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Macomb Post Acute Care Center.
Georgeanna was born on May 21, 1933 alomst 2 hours after her twin brother, George, at the LaHarpe Mary Davier Hospital, to Walter and Irene (Plank) Hast. On February 12, 1961 she married Keith Charles Fowler at the LaHarpe United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2019.
Georgeanna attended Elm Grove, a one room country school, east of LaHarpe. The school was on half an acre given by her grandfather Charles Hast. In 1962 the country school was purchased by her father and became home for her and Keith.
After graduating from LaHarpe High School in 1951, she attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. She graduated in 1956, majored in Business Education and Minored in Music. While in college, she was a Girl Scout Leader for all age groups, including senior camp in the summers at the family farm.
Georgeanna worked for Little Brothers Hardware, The News Stand and Biz Miller's Grocery. She also taught music in country schools. She began teaching in August of 1957 in LaHarpe as a music teacher for Junior High two years, then all grades for one year including high school general business classes until May of 1963. In 1964 she began substitute teaching in LaHarpe, which she did for over 40 years. She was known by many as "Mrs. Flower."
She was a member of the LaHarpe United Methodist Church, where she was very active with teaching Sunday school, serving as treasurer, women's group, choir, and organist for many years. She enjoyed helping her father farm and later with Keith, together they kept the farm going. She loved to garden, tap dance, being in card club, playing games and spending time with family.
Survivors include one daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Genck of LaHarpe; one son, Lance (Tamera) Fowler of West Jordan, Utah; five grandchildren, Jordan (Koral) Genck, Jarren Genck, Lauren (Coulton) Wascher, Elyse Burk and Marcus Fowler; four great-grandchildren and her twin brother, George Hast.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one granddaughter, Megan and one sister, Janet Bollin.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Lee Unger officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
