Mr. George Raymond Dues, 84, of West Burlington, IA, formerly of Dallas City, IL, passed away at 2:40 AM Saturday, July 2, 2016 at The Blair House, Burlington, IA.

He was born on January 30, 1932 in Fort Madison, IA the son of George H. and Margaret Williams Dues. On February 15, 1969 he married Sylvia Sue (Carothers) Fitzgerald.

George was a graduate of the Catholic Central High School in Fort Madison, and later graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA, majoring in political science. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1949-1953 followed by service in the National Guard from 1954-1958. Mr. Dues worked at the Shaeffer Pen Company, retiring after 28 years of work. He then began a second career as a HyVee Associate.

George enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and vacationing in Florida. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Sue, four children, Marybeth Kemp of Clearwater, FL, Kelly (Ben) Kozlowski of Davenport, IA, Kevin (Penny Thomas) Fitzgerald of Highlands Ranch, CO, Bobby (Stacey) Fitzgerald of Fort Madison, IA, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Margie Reed, Edwarda Keller, and a brother Bill Dues.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City, with Father Tony Trosley officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A visitation will take place from 2:00 until 4:00 PM on Monday, July 4 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City.
