Gene Roy Schertz, 74, of Lomax, IL passed away at 4:55 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 at his home.

He was born on November 13, 1941 in Peoria, IL the son of Orville and Jimmie Horton Schertz. On June 17, 2000 he married Sandra Poulter in Lomax, she survives.

Gene was a graduate of the Rushville High School in Rushville, IL. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy. Gene was self employed as a carpenter and also ran an electronic repair business in Burlington, IA. He was an avid pitch player, St. Louis Cardinal fan, and Dale Earnhardt & Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan.

Survivors include, his wife, Sandra, two step-sons, Jeff (Kim) Poulter of Middle Town, IA and Kerry Poulter of Terre Haute, IL, six step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, one brother, Kenneth Schertz of Apache Junction, AZ and one sister, Joyce Schertz of Mesa, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald Schertz and Orville Schertz, Jr.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Ray McLaren officiating. Burial will be held at Carman Cemetery, Carman, IL. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Lomax Senior Citizens and the Lomax Christian Church.
