Gary Lee Hobby, age 66, of Terre Haute, Illinois, passed away Friday December 28, 2018 at Solara Specialty Hospital in Brownsville, Texas. He was born October 23, 1952 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of William Lee and Pauline Louise Gittings Hobby. Gary was married to Nancy Tudor. They later divorced. On December 15, 1995, he married Marie Golliday in Lomax, Illinois. She survives.
Gary was a welder for J.I. Case Company in Burlington for many years, retiring in 2001. He also farmed near Terre Haute for many years. He had been a volunteer fireman for Lomax Fire Department, and later, the Terre Haute Fire Department for many years. He was a member of the Lomax Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marie, two daughters, Amanda Jack of Stronghurst, IL, Laura (Nathan) Mehaffy of Danville, IA, four grandchildren, Peyton and Spencer Jack, and Dane and Marin Mehaffy, four step grandchildren, one sister, Peggy Nixon of Lomax, IL, and two nieces, Heidi Ruebush and Angela McConnell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with Larry Hobby officiating. Burial will be in the Terre Haute Cemetery, at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for the Terre Haute Fire Department.
