Frederick Carson Sherwood born February 12, 1931 in Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa to Wilbur C. "Perky" and Stella Marie (Admire) Sherwood died Sunday, December 19, 2021 Memorial Medical Center, Springfield Illinois.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Katharine Sue (Byers) Sherwood of Springfield, Illinois. Also surviving is one daughter: Denise Sue Sherwood of Springfield, Illinois; one son: Rase Carson (Amy) Sherwood of Springfield, Illinois; two grandchildren: Kaytlin Marie Sherwood and Rase Carson Sherwood Jr. of Springfield, Illinois; one brother: Everett (Bonnie) Cox of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law: Francis Petersen of Grand Island, Nebraska and Norma Brandon Springfield, Illinois and several nieces, nephews and cousins in a large extended family.

Fred was a Veteran of the Korean conflict. He returned home to graduate from Western Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in education. During summers of his high school years he worked as a Gandy Dancer on the Santa Fe Railroad in Dallas City Illinois, where he grew up. He began his teaching and coaching career in Maquon, Illinois he also taught at Abington, Illinois Dallas City, Illinois and Bushnell, Illinois before retiring from the Balyki School District in Bath, Illinois. After retirement he provided color and some play by play radio broadcast for the local Havana, Illinois radio station WDUK. He and his wife Kay moved to Springfield where his major pastimes were watching his beloved Chicago Cubs play baseball and watching his son, Rase, coach his grandchildren playing basketball.

The funeral service for Mr. Sherwood will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the First Christian Church in Dallas City. A visitation, with the family, will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the church.

Burial with Military Rites will follow in the Dallas City Cemetery.
