Evelyn Irene Yard, 92, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 2:34 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2023 at her home.
Evelyn was born January 6, 1931, near Fountain Green, Illinois, the daughter of Roscoe and Leona (Simmons) Wetzel. On September 3, 1950 she married L. Eldon Yard in Fountain Green. He preceded her in death April 28, 1999.
Evelyn attended Joe Duncan Grade School in Fountain Green and was a graduate of Macomb High School. She worked for a short time at the Canning Factory in Lomax, Brown-Lynch-Scott Hardware Store, for Bob Cratsenberg and Little Brother's, all in LaHarpe. Her favorite job was being a farm wife and raising her two sons.
Evelyn was a member of the former LaHarpe United Methodist Church, where she helped with Vacation Bible School. She later became a member of the LaHarpe Union Church. She was active with Cub Scouts, serving as a Den Mother for four years. She also served as President of the LaHarpe Senior Citizens and served on the board of the LaHarpe Carnegie Library. She was an active member of the local Club 16 Group.
Survivors include one son: Karl (Leana) Yard of LaHarpe; 7 grandchildren: Shane (Karen) Yard, Amy (Jeff) Hager, Jarrid (Rebecca) Yard, Landon (Ashley) Yard, Colby (Monica) Yard, Michelle (Mike) Caldwell and Teresa Hickey; 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by one son: Kent Yard; three brothers: William, Robert and Wendell Wetzel and two sisters: Marilyn Huston and Shirley Shafer.
The funeral service for Mrs. Yard will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday morning at the funeral home.
