Elsie Magin, 103, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 10:28 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at her home.
Elsie was born November 11, 1920 in LaHarpe the daughter of Earl and Elva (Allen) Shutwell. On March 30, 1940 she married Howard Allen Magin in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death September 12, 1995.
Mrs. Magin was a homemaker and helped run the Amus-U Theatre and the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley in LaHarpe for 10 years. She was also an employee at Sylvania in Burlington and Memorial Hospital in Carthage. She graduated LaHarpe High School in 1938. She was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church, Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge, LaHarpe Historical Society and LaHarpe Senior Citizens. She enjoyed making quilts, working in her yard, gardening and traveling in all the states and abroad.
Survivors include one daughter: Janet (Ken) Stokke of LaHarpe, two grandchildren: Lance (Michelle) Collins and Shawna (Ryan) Kent; one step-grandson: Mark (Bonnie) Stokke; 3 great-grandsons: Tyler Cahoy, Josh and James Collins; three step-great-grandchildren: Marky Stokke, Jennifer Royer and Tray Stokke; three great-great-grandchildren: Mark Otto Stokke, Jubilee Stokke and Isaac Cahoy; one sister Ruth (Leonard) Kirchner of Quincy and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter: Donna Metcalf, her parents and two sisters: Myrtle Fife and Lois Crane.
The funeral service for Elsie will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rick Goettsche and Nate McCarter officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the Banks & Beals.
