Elgin Estella Hardisty

Mrs. , age 98 of LaHarpe, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday May 21, 2011 in the LaHarpe-Davier Health Center. She was born April 4, 1913 near Fountain Green, Illinois, the daughter of Maurice H. and Estella Hobart Yetter. On July 12, 1933, she married Erwin Hardisty in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1980.

Elgin was a lifelong resident of LaHarpe. She was a 1932 graduate of Colchester High School. She and her husband owned and operated the Travelers Inn restaurant in LaHarpe from 1968 until 1973. Later they owned the LaHarpe Pool Hall and Laundromat for several years. She was a member of the LaHarpe Senior Citizens, a thirty year member of Hancock County RSVP, and a member of the LaHarpe Union Church. She loved her flowers, birds, and baking for her family. She began each day with a smile and a determination to enjoy life.

Survivors include one daughter - Janet (Kermit) Barrett of Colchester, Illinois, one son- Max Hardisty of Bloomington, Illinois, five grandchildren - Duane (Kathy) Barrett, Dean Barrett, Diane (Jeff) Robinson, Scott (Vickie) Hardisty and David Hardisty, ten great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and ten step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter- Jean Hardisty, three sisters- Alma Rich, Mabel Huston, and Naomi Lewis, and five brothers- Lewis, Jennings, Harry, Ross, and Fay Yetter.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hardisty will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 25, 2011 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial will follow in the Glade City Cemetery in Blandinsville, IL. Friends may call as they desire after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the LaHarpe Union Church and LaHarpe Senior Citizens.
