Eldon H. Neff, 91, formerly of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Friday, August 25, 2023 at Bickford Assisted Living in Iowa City, IA. We are grateful for the caring and compassionate staff at Bickford, as well as the staff at St. Croix Hospice.
Born July 4th, 1932 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Harold and Maxine (Black) Neff. Eldon grew up in the country near Raritan, IL with his two brothers, Ralph and Lawrence. He attended a one-room school, then went on to graduate from Media H.S. in 1950. He met his future wife, Frances Bundy, at a roller-skating rink in LaHarpe, IL. They were married June 15, 1952. They raised their 5 children in Raritan, IL.
Eldon retired from J.I. Case after 28 ½ years of service. Upon retiring he enjoyed raising horses and chickens, playing cards with friends, being a deacon in the Lomax Christian Church, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Eldon is survived by his brother, Lawrence, Lomax, IL, daughter Jan (Ron) Kimble of Charlotte, NC, son, Gary Neff of Burlington, IA, daughter Tina (Dan) Baker of Punta Gorda, FL, and daughter Barbara (Mike) Boyle of Montezuma, IA. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Bundy) Neff, son, Terry Neff, granddaughter, Jamie Kimble and great granddaughter, Abby MacGregor, brother, Ralph, and his parents.
The funeral for Eldon will be at 10:30 AM Monday, September 18, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, IL with Pastor Maxine Dennison from the Lomax Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
