Mrs. E. Joan Hinman, 81, of Niota, Illinois passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 4:52 P.M. at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

She was born on September 12, 1929 in Fort Madison, Iowa the daughter of Widney and Gladys Little Zern. On September 4, 1948 she married Donald Hinman in Dallas City. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2010.

Joan was a 1948 graduate of the Dallas City High School. She worked as a waitress early in life and also worked at Sheaffer Pen Co, in Fort Madison. She and her husband liked riding motorcycles and camping. They were members of the ILIAMO Roamers Camping Club, Keokuk, Iowa and the Goldwing Roadriders Club, Burlington. She supported the Make A Wish Foundation, enjoyed bowling, knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, collecting cookbooks, feeding birds and walking.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Kathryn Duncan of Niota and Deborah Edminston of Davenport, Iowa, 1 son Mathew Donald Hinman of Loose Creek, Missouri, 9 grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, 2 sisters, Rachel Siemens of Niota and Pat Hocker of Keokuk and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 sister and 5 brothers.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established for the Lomax Ambulance Service or the Great River Medical Center. Banks & Beals Funeral Home, Dallas City is in charge of arrangements.
