Max Dunblazier, 93, of Mount Pleasant, IA, formerly of Burlington and LaHarpe, IL passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 at 1:15 AM at Arbor Court Care Facility in Mount Pleasant.

He was born June 12, 1919 in Table Grove, IL, the son of David and Lucy Ann Hale Dunblazier. On November 24, 1942 he married Marlise Butterfield..

Mr. Dunblazier graduated from Table Grove, IL High School and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL before being drafted into the Army during World War II. He was a member of Co. E, 361st Infantry and attained the rank of First Sergeant. He was a recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and many Campaign medals.

Max worked for Reeder Motor Co., Fred Gibb Chevrolet and operated the Midway and Standard Stations in LaHarpe. He later moved to Burlington where he worked for Montgomery Ward until retirement. Max loved wood working, tinkering with motors, his yard and most of all playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, one daughter, Diane (Carl) Wickham of Mount Pleasant, 6 grandchildren, Lori (Brent) Dunblazier ODonnell, Stacey (Rob) Wickham Swigart, Lisa (Dusty) Dunblazier Palmer, Mike (Steff) Wickham, Marcy (Mark) Wickham Shrum and Lance Dunblazier, 10 great-grandchildren, Todd, Makenzie, Elaina and Mallory Swigart, Mason, Makiah and Max Shrum, Ale and Shay Palmer, Brailey ODonnell and one little Wickham (Mikes) on the way, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Loren Dunblazier, 5 brothers, Don, Charles, Lee, Gene and Floyd Dunblazier and one sister, Mildred.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Jim Clayton officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, between 3:00 and 8:00 PM at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for the Arbor Court Care Facility or a no-kill animal shelter of your choice.
