Dorothy A. Whitaker, 89, of rural LaHarpe, Illinois passed away at 8:38 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the OSF St. Frances Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

Dorothy was born on January 2, 1932 on the family farm near Bentley, Illinois, the daughter of Harry W. and Fern K. (Orth) Shoup. On February 18, 1951 she married John L. Whitaker in Carthage, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2008.

Dorothy was a graduate of Carthage High School. Following high school she worked for Sheaffer Pen Co., Methode, IAAP and spent most of her time helping John on the farm. She was a member of the LaHarpe United Methodist Church, Happy Helpers Club, LaHarpe American Legion Auxiliary and the Black Hawk Auto Restorers in Burlington.

Dorothy enjoyed being outdoors and time spent with her friends, family and cats; especially Miss Kitty..

Survivors include two daughters: Linda (Ken) Hunerdosse and Judy Johnson all of LaHarpe; six grandchildren: Uria, Mendy, Elias, Crystal, Katie and John and two great-grandchildren: Noah and Jaymison.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; daughter and son-in-law: Sharon and Paul Ryder and four siblings: Bill, Carl, Betty and Frank.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2021 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Lee Unger officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilot Grove Cemetery, near Burnside, Illinois.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Monday at Banks & Beals. A memorial fund has been established for the Williams Syndrome Association, Mosaic Disability Services or LaHarpe American Legion Auxiliary.
