Mrs. Dorothy Mae Snyder, 91, of rural Burnside, IL died at 5:25 AM Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at her home.

She was born February 10, 1927 in Cuba Illinois to Adah Francis (Haigh) and Chester Arthur Bartlett. She was one of six children all of which are deceased except a sister Patricia Faye Knapp.

Dorothy attended school in Colchester till the 10 ^th grade when she quit school and married Glenn LeRoy Snyder on March 15, 1943. They had 11 children. The first two children are twins, Beverly Joan (Steven) Brunk lives in Danville, IA. Barbara Jean (Edward) Burford lives in Warsaw, IL, Betty June (Rene) Medina lives in Denmark, IA. Becky Jane (Larry) Flowers lives in West Burlington, IA. Chester Dwight (Joyce) Snyder lives in Colusa, IL. Billie Jo (David) Mosher lives in Ft Madison, IA, Bonnie Jeanette (Gene) Willdrick lives in rural Dallas City, Brenda Jewel Womack lives in Ft Madison, IA. Clarence Dale Snyder lives in Burnside, IL. Bea Jay (Alan) Huls lives in Wataga, IL. and Glenn LeRoy (Terry) Snyder Jr. lives in Buffalo, MN. Dorothy and Glenn had 32 grandchildren, 68 Great Grandchildren, and 22 Great Great Grand Children with 2 more on the way! Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Glenn and 2 grandsons, Kevin Snyder and Aaron Huls, a great granddaughter, Mikhaila Palmer and a great grandson, Matthew Brookhiser , one brother and three sisters

Dorothy and Glenn lived on a farm near Burnside and was very busy raising their 11 children. In addition, Dorothy was a farmer's wife in true form; always busy preparing and delivering meals to the workers in the field, driving the tractors and taking grain to the elevator. Besides harvesting their own crops they would do custom work on neighboring farms for over 30 years.

Upon their retirement Quality Machine Quilting was established in 1981. Dorothy and Glenn started on the front porch and now fill the entire lower level of her home. Upon Glenn's passing her daughter, Becky, continued the "Hobby" and to date over 11,000 quilts have been stitched and reside worldwide.

Dorothy and her family traveled extensively in their motor home throughout the
United States. Even travelling abroad including Holland, France and Brussels. Dorothy was a very giving person. She was often seen as Mrs. Santa Claus at nursing homes, schools, VFW and even a few parades handing out handmade gifts to young and old. If a neighbor or family member was ill or in need, she was first to offer a meal, ride or company.

Family and friends considered Dorothy a five star cook and a master pie maker, often baking 10 or more pies at a time from scratch.
She was appreciated for her sense of humor (her form of Justice) such as $2.00 in pennies for the bridge toll taker, peanut butter on her pancakes and not eating there again, and of course honey mustard on Everything.

Mostly though Mom cherished her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Nancy Love officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. friends may call after 3:00PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until7:00pm Friday. A memorial fund has been established for the St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.
