Dorothy Mae Sheets, 94, of Carthage, IL passed away at 5:10 PM Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Montebello Health Care Center in Hamilton, IL. Born June 6, 1923 near LaCrosse, IL, Dorothy was the daughter of Ellis and Ethel Schroeder Sheets.

Dorothy worked as a home economics teacher. She had worked at the Colchester, Terre Haute and Carthage schools; retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Hancock County and Illinois Chapters of the Retired Teacher Association and had worked in the state office for two years.

Dorothy was engaged in various activities at the Carthage Library, Memorial Hospital Gift Shop. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Carthage.

Survivors include one niece: Dorothy (John) Chaplin of Keokuk, IA, Two nephews: Clinton (Melody) Reed of Washington, IL, Lee (Lynn) Reed of Driftwood, TX, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Elizabeth Reed and Viola Ruth Reed.

A private graveside service will be held Monday, November 27, 2017 at the LaHarpe Cemetery, LaHarpe, IL. A memorial fund has been established for the First Christian Church of Carthage.
