Mrs. Dorothy Fern Owens, 98, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 4:15p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Montibello Healthcare Center in Hamilton, IL.

She was born September 20, 1915 in Lexington, IL the daughter of William and Carrie Avis Haner. On August 24, 1934 she married John F. Owens in Lexington, IL. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1999.

Dorothy was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Fort Madison, IA. She was an Avon Lady for many years, she even named a perfume and was top sales person many times. She raised her own children, foster children and adopted four children. Dorothy lived in Streator, IL until 1978 when she and her husband moved to Carthage, IL and then to Dallas City in 1997.

Mrs. Owens is survived by one daughter, Betty (Bud) Hallam of Dallas City, four adopted children, Sherri Owens of Dallas City, LeVella (David) Ryder of Neoga, IL, Kenneth (Stacy) Owens of Donnellson, IA and Keith Owens of eastern Illinois, ten grandchildren, Tammy (Chip) Perkins of Carnegie, OK, Ronda Huffman of Warsaw, IL, Eric Hallam of Ft. Madison, Colleen (Duane) Taylor of Mexico, MO, Candi (Tom) Kendall of Warsaw, IL, Sarah (John) Whitaker of Dallas City, Christian Ryder, Caelan Ryder, Kelsae Owens, Kelly Owens and Ona Owens all of Neoga, IL, twenty great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one special nephew, William (Arlene) Haner Jr. of Ft. Madison.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, one daughter, Bonnie Fasking, two children in infancy, Charlotte and Dorwin, one grandchild, Kyle Owens, one great-grandchild, Devin Taylor, one sister, Eveline Thomas and one brother, William Haner Sr.

Services will be held at 10:00a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Church of Nazarene in Montrose, IA with Rev. Chip Perkins, Rev. Preston Smith and John Hayes officiating. Burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Lexington, IL. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. A memorial fund has been established for the Compassionate Ministries.
