Dora E. Smith Ridgley, age 101, of Macomb, Illinois, formerly of Stronghurst, passed away Saturday September 22, 2018 at Wesley Village in Macomb. She was born January 19, 1917 near Hull, Illinois, the daughter of John and Nancy McDowell Morris. On April 1, 1933, she married Homer C. Smith. He passed away January 21, 1990. On May 14, 1991, she married Herbert Ridgley. He also preceded her in death.

Dora had been employed at Sylvania Corp. and Ross Manufacturing in Burlington, and later retired from the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown. After retirement, she cared for several elderly Stronghurst residents, in their homes. She was a member of the Raritan Baptist Church in Raritan, Illinois. Earlier in life, she enjoyed traveling and camping. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Lawrence (Mary Ann) Smith of La Harpe, IL, Carl (Patricia) Smith of Macomb, IL, one sister in law, Lucille Morris of Clarksville, MO, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, two sons, Homer and Melvin Smith, one daughter, Donetta Whalen, and two brothers, George and Lorel Morris.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday September 28, 2018 in the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb, with Rev. Donnie Case officiating.
