Mr. Donald Clyde Stevens, 89, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 2:05 AM on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center, LaHarpe.

Don was born August 26, 1924 in LaHarpe; the son of Clyde and Addie Helmers Stevens. On April 27, 1945 he married Mary Jane Boyd in LaHarpe. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2001.

Mr. Stevens served in the Navy during World War II. Early in life, Don worked at the Miller Grocery Store in LaHarpe as well as the Little Brothers Hardware Store. He served as the acting Post Master for LaHarpe in 1961. He then worked for the Illinois Dept. Of Transportation, before becoming the LaHarpe Township Road Commissioner, a position he held for 26 years. Don was a member of the LaHarpe American Legion for over 60 years, and served on the LaHarpe Fire Dept. for 25 years. He enjoyed following the local school sport teams. Don was a member of the LaHarpe Union Church.

Don is survived by three children: Sheila (Richard) Clover of Danville, IN, Todd (Carol) Stevens of LaHarpe, and Kevin Stevens of Chesterfield, MO; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one brother: John Stevens of Wauwatosa, WI; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Charles and two infant brothers.

Friends may call after 3:00 PM Monday, May 19, 2014 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the funeral home, with Rev. Rick Goettsche officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at the LaHarpe Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Union Church and the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.
