Mr. Donald L. Powelson, 72, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 3:16 P.M. at the Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Illinois.

He was born on July 18, 1938 in LaHarpe, the son of Roy and Anna Williams Powelson. On March 1, 1958 he married Frances Joan Hoskins in Biggsville, Illinois.

Mr. Powelson was a retired diesel mechanic. He worked for Robnett - Jurgens in Carthage for over 20 years and later worked at Bedwells in Bushnell, Illinois, retiring in 2002. He also farmed with his father. He enjoyed working on tractors and lawn mowers, fishing, camping gardening and spending time outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Deana Faye Sutton of Fort Madison, Iowa, three sons, Lynn Leroy Powelson of Durham, Illinois, Timothy Roland Powelson of Oelwein, Iowa and Jamey Lee Powelson of LaHarpe, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Ronald, Frederick and Gale Powelson.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the LaHarpe Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Friends may call after 4:00 P.M. Friday at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
