Donald Duane Mickey

, age 79 of Gulfport, Illinois, died at 7:40 p.m. Saturday March 22, 2014 at University Of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born March 6, 1935 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Laura Nichols Mickey. On April 30, 1956, he married Mavis Schlieper in Quincy, Illinois.

Mr. Mickey served in the United States Navy, then resided in Gulfport for the next fifty years. He was a welder for J.I. Case Company in Burlington for twenty years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union in Burlington. He enjoyed working on cars, racing cars, golfing, and playing pool. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Gail (Lonny) Cale of Donnellson, IA., Judy (Robert) Avery of Stronghurst, Kelly (Sam Linkin) Mickey of Gulfport, two sons, Donald Mickey II, of Burlington, John Mickey of Gulfport, eight grandchildren, Joshua, Laura, Doni, Renee, Bobby, Erin, Tory, and Shelby, eight great grandchildren, Sydney, Owen, Adam, Mila, Gavin, Silas, Lexis, and Reese, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and one grandson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday March 26, 2014 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation, and burial will be at a later date in the Carman Cemetery.
