Donald Eugene Dobson, 79, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 6:30 PM Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.

Don was born on February 5, 1937 near Burnside, IL the son of Frank Leslie and Alma Edith Bottens Dobson. On August 10, 1958 he married Dorothy Ann Fark in LaHarpe. They later divorced.

Don was raised in the Burnside area and was a graduate of the former Colusa High School. In his younger years, Don enjoyed participating in tractor pulls and was also on a traveling baseball team. He was a self-taught welder and opened Dobson Welding in LaHarpe in 1970. In 1972 Don and his family moved to LaHarpe. Don was a former member of the LaHarpe Lions Club as well as a volunteer fireman for the LaHarpe Fire Department. On more than one occasion he used his welding skills to free trapped individuals. Don had resided in The Augusta Shelter Care for the past 18 years, moving to LaHarpe earlier this year. He enjoyed fishing.

Don is survived by four children: Scott (Carol Selmon) Dobson of LaHarpe, Susan VanWinkle of Blandinsville, IL, Andy (Donna) Dobson of Niota, IL, Jody Hardy of Macomb, IL; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one sister: June Dobson of Colorado Springs, CO.

He was preceded by his parents, one brother: George and one great-grandson: Matthew Bible.

No services are planned. Friends may call after 2:00 PM Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 PM. A private burial will take place at a later date in the Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage, IL. A Memorial Fund has been established for the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.
