Mr. Donald E. Butcher, 74, of Scappoose, OR passed away at 4:45 AM Friday, September 5, 2014 at The Madison, Ft. Madison, IA. Don was born on April 3, 1940 in Macomb, IL, the son of Kenneth R. and Lora C. Lawrence Butcher. He married Joanne Orr, they divorced. He later married Carolyn Ek Butcher, they divorced.

Mr. Butcher served in the Navy from 1957 to 1961. While in the Navy he was stationed in Guam. He remained in the reserves until 1963. He then worked on tug boats for many years before becoming a captain in 1969. He remained a captain for over 40 years until his retirement. Don was a member of the St. Helens, OR Elks, American Legion Post #0114 in Oregon, the Scappoose Senior Center, and the Riverview Sportsman Club in Dallas City, IL.

Donald is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Butcher of Beaverton, OR; two step-children, Lisa Stanton of Scappoose, OR, and Tim Hardt of Gresham, OR; five grandchildren; one brother Kenneth Jack Butcher of Baltimore, MD; and his special friend, Linda Rettig of Dallas City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Richard Lynn Butcher.

Family and Friends are invited to the home of Linda Rettig where a meal will be served at 4:30 Wednesday, September 10, 2014. A visitation will begin at 6:00 PM Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, with a memorial service following at 7:00 PM. A memorial service will also take place in Scappoose, OR at a later date. The Dallas City American Legion will perform military rites during the service.
