David W. Painter, 86, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst. He was born June 7, 1932 in LaHarpe, IL, the son of George F. and Leah Jane Warner Painter. On August 18, 1951, he married Jean Overton in Terre Haute, IL.

David served as Henderson County Circuit Clerk for twenty three years, from 1972 until 1995. Prior to that he farmed near Terre Haute from 1950 to 1974. After retiring as Circuit Clerk, he was a loan officer for the Raritan State Bank in Raritan, IL from 1995 until 2001. He had served on the boards of the Henderson County Library, the LaHarpe School District, Henderson County Soil & Water Conservation, and the Terre Haute High School Homecoming Committee. He was involved in the American Cancer Society, and was a former leader of 4-H and Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Terre Haute United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mellany (Mark) Tretter of Quincy, IL, Melinda Poulter of Carman, IL, two sons, Jerry (JoAnn) Painter of Blue Grass, IA, Terry (Donna) Painter of Stronghurst, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one sister, Margaret (Fred) Starr of Spring Bay, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Leanne Sargent and Nancy Parrish, and one brother, Dale Painter.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday February 28, 2019 at Banks & Beals, with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial will follow in the Terre Haute Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Terre Haute United Methodist Church and Henderson County Library.
