David Smith Miller was born September 10, 1942 in La Harpe, Illinois to Harold W. "Biz" Miller and Helen Louise Smith Miller, and he passed away August 14, 2022 at Rushville, Illinois Nursing and Rehab Center from Cancer of the Kidney.

His first marriage was to Patricia Baujan and they were the parents of 3 sons:  Eric, Kevin and Jarrod.  David married  Suzanne Eppley Donaldson February 27, 1976 at Durham United Methodist Church.

In his childhood he attended Elm Grove country school near his home, and he was a graduate of La Harpe High School in 1960.  While in high school he played football and was a trumpeter in the band, receiving the John Philip Sousa Award.  He attended Parsons College for 3 years and was lead trumpeter in their band.  David also graduated from SCC in West Burlington, Iowa.

His places of employment included J. I. Case Company in Burlington, Iowa, his father's grocery store in La Harpe (Hamilton & Miller), La Harpe Hospital, Schwan's Sales Enterprises, Milstead Electric, and he owned his own archery shop.  In his late years he worked at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Macomb until he was unable to do so.

David loved being in the woods, deer hunting, squirrel hunting, coon hunting, etc., as well being an avid fisherman.  He shot in world archery competition, was a good bowler and obtained many awards in pool competition being in several leagues.  He was also a St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Surviving are his wife, Suzanne, sons Eric (Krisa) of Burlington, Iowa, Kevin (Tamara) of Dallas City, Illinois, Jarrod (Jen) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and step-daughter, Kim (Jon) Barr of Carthage.  Grandchildren are David Miller, Ashlyn Miller, Alexis (Trevor) Meierotto, and step-granddaughter, Kaila (Jacob) Rowland.  Step great grandchildren are Aria and Briella Rowland.  Also surviving are  his sister, Sara (Sam) McGrew, sister-in-laws Sylvia Eppley, and Dianne (Greg) Blythe, mother-in-law, Gladys Eppley, as well as nieces and nephews and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, and sister, Martha Rude, father-in-law, George Eppley, and brother-in-law, Dennis Eppley.
