Dale W. Shutwell, 96, of rural LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 at the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois.

He was born January 27, 1927 at the LaHarpe Hospital, the son of Fred and Margaret (Maynard) Shutwell. He graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1944 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following his Honorable Discharge, he married Eleanor Thompson, at the LaHarpe Union Church, on August 9, 1946. They were married for 73 years. She preceded him in death September 17, 2019.

Survivors include one son: Ted (Rosann) Shutwell of LaHarpe; one grandson: Jared (KaDee) Shutwell of Carthage; two granddaughters: Willo (Ryan) Quivey of Burnside and Anna Shutwell of Macomb; six great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Ella, Ava, and Myah Shutwell and Shane and Sam Carpenter.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter: Linda; one son: Ken; two brothers: Kermit Shutwell and Vernon Shutwell and one sister: Dorothy Baxter.

Mr. Shutwell was a respected life-long farmer, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the LaHarpe Union Church and the LaHarpe American Legion Post #301.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial, with Military Rites conducted by the LaHarpe American Legion, will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
