Cheryl Owings, 95, of Carthage, Illinois passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019 at the UnityPoint Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

She was born on July 4, 1924 near LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Victor and Inez Browning Riley. On March 17, 1945 she married Dale N. Owings at the Colusa United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1979.

Cheryl was a member of the former Colusa United Methodist Church, First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Carthage, P.E.O., Business and Professional Women and Home Bureau. She served as an area 4H Leader and was a past President of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Owings worked as a nurse for many years. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and her cat, Annie. Her greatest joy came from being a mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her four children, Linda (Dave) Grieve of Ankeny, Iowa, Donald (Terry) Owings of Carthage, Nancy (Richard) Knowles of Mackinaw, Illinois and Ronald Owings of Columbia, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Heather, Shana, Lindsey, Tom, Emily, Leslie and Andy, fourteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one granddaughter, Julie Owings Burdette. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorotha Myers and Doris Henrichs and one brother, Ellsworth Riley.

The funeral service for Mrs. Owings will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Greg Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Myers Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until time of services, Saturday, at Banks & Beals.
