Obituary

Charles Kenton Black, 77, of Burnside, IL passed away at 1:30 AM, Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, IA. Charlie was born on January 6, 1938 in Basco, IL, the son of Herby and Edith Lowman Black. On June 28, 1959 he married Mary A. Brown in Pontoosuc, IL.
Mr. Black served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1959. He then worked for J.I. Case in Burlington for 33 years, retiring in 1990. Charlie was also a lifetime farmer, farming near LaHarpe and Burnside. In his later years he drove a semi part-time for Don Jacobs. Mr. Black was a member of the Carthage American Legion. Charlie attended the Burnside Christian Church and he loved spending time with family and friends and was always there to help others.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, two daughters Karen (Todd) Moyer of Wilton, IA and Teresa (John) Harrison of Warsaw, IL three grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Moyer and Megan (Fianc Jordan Maag) Harrison, three step-grandchildren, Anna (Scott) Miller, Krista and Kayla Harrison, three step-great-grandchildren, one brother, John (Ruth) Black of LaFayette, AR, two sisters Helen (Harry) Cronin of Key Largo, FL and Jeannie (Fritz) Timmermen of Carman, IL and several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Herby, Richard, Ronald and Loren.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 8, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Mark Nickols officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow in Harris Cemetery. Family will meet with friends one hour prior to the service. Friends may call from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for HUGS of Carthage, IL, the Dallas City and Colusa Fire Departments and the Burnside Christian Church.
