Mr. Charles Lyman Cox, 83, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2015 at his home.
He was born on February 4, 1932 near Lomax, IL, the son of Fred B. and Dewey Pitts Cox. On September 1, 1956 he married Janet Poulter in Dallas City. She preceded him in death on December 15, 2011.
Mr. Cox was a 1950 graduate of the Terre Haute High School. He then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 - 1954, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He farmed all of his life and was a member of the Lomax Christian Church and a former member of the LaHarpe Lions Club. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, fishing, playing cards, watching sports especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by two sons, Mike (Lori) Cox of Ft. Madison, IA, Gene (Barbara) Cox of LaHarpe, two daughters, Teresa Cox of LaHarpe, Ann Logan of Carthage, IL, nine grandchildren, Amanda Brown, Bradley (Lauren) Cox, Bryan Brown, Bobby Cox, Ben (Ashley) Cox, Genessa (Nathan) Todd, Aaron Logan, Brody Logan and Samatha Cox, ten great-grandchildren and two sisters, Alice (David) Pence of LaHarpe and Bea (Kenny) Tolander of Mt. Pleasant, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janet, and two brothers, Gail and Benny Cox.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Lomax Christian Church with Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be held at a later date in Crane Cemetery near Lomax. A memorial fund has been established for the Lomax Christian Church. Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe is charge of arrangements.
