Charles Eugene Vancil

Charles Eugene Chuck Vancil, age 85 of Lomax, Illinois died at 12:05 a.m. Saturday August 1, 2009 at his home. He was born September 28, 1923 in Augusta, Illinois, the son of Arbry and Grace Blansett Vancil. On June 8, 1968, he married Sandra Jeanne Gaibel.

Mr. Vancil was an Army Veteran of World War II. He had worked for Champion Spark Plug of Burlington, IA for many years, retiring in 1985. Prior to that he had worked as a truck driver, was a mechanic for Bagley Motors in Roseville, IL for many years, owned and operated the Sinclair Station in Lomax, and was greenskeeper for Hendco Hills Golf Club near Biggsville. He was dedicated to the Dallas City Rural Fire Protection District and was a volunteer firefighter for many years. He was a former Lomax Village Mayor and was a volunteer driver for the Lomax Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Dallas City American Legion and the Lomax Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra, two sons - Michael Vancil of England, Michael (Tammy) Martin of Moline, IL., five daughters - Bette Sage Boughton of the state of Virginia, Debbra Martin of Lomax, Sherri Martin of Moline, Cindy Prier of Burlington, IA., Ruth (Bob) Crupper of Hulbert, OK, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and three unofficially adopted children - Marcia Ryberg of Galesburg, IL, Clarence Gene Roarke, of Lomax, and Bryan Hubbard of Stronghurst. He was preceded in death by two sons - Charles Joseph CJ Vancil and Clifford "Duffy" Sage, one great granddaughter - Natalie Prier, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday August 4, 2009 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. Peggy Stott officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Crane Cemetery, near Lomax. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday. Memorials have been established for the Dallas City Veterans Memorial, Lomax Fire Department, and Hospice of Henderson County Health Department.
